I’m a mechanic that started my apprenticeship when I was 18. I worked in Darwin for 2 years before moving and completing my apprenticeship and continuing my trade in mining. Having experience both in town and mining, all of which are male dominated, I’ve seen the experiences and understood how women felt during certain situations from the drop-off process to picking up their cars after a service. I quickly realised this would be a perfect area where women can empower women.
Her Mechanic aims to be an all female owned and operated workshop, designed to allow women to feel and gain confidence during their experience with getting their cars serviced and repaired. Her Mechanic is not only for my customers, it’s also for the women interested in entering the male dominated field. This is a place where women can feel safe, comfortable and leave with more like-minded friends where the goal is empowering each other in every step of our individual journeys.
